Program Note

Undertow (2020/2022) for flute and electronics from the larger album work Unofficial. This piece started as a multi-tracked improvisation and developed into a live looping performance. The title refers to the pulling under effect of the electronics which counteract the flute’s striving melodic lines. This is one of the first works where I heard a sound made with flutes that I felt close attachment to; it is a quality of sound that I’ve been striving for as an acoustic musician for years.
