Tomorrow

2024

Program Note

This piece was inspired by the uncertainty of election night and influenced by Christian Marclay’s video installation “The Clock”. I wanted to make a piece that encapsulates the effervescence that tomorrow will bring a better day and the defiance and resolve often required to summon such a hopeful thought.

The point of this piece is that no matter what happens today or tonight, tomorrow will come. The sun will rise, the day will dawn, and we will go on.

The 24 minutes of “Tomorrow” mirror what happens in our natural world from 12:00am until 11:59pm. Sometimes there is also a gentle overlap and mixing of sounds from our human routines and rituals. Each minute of the fixed field recordings represents an hour of the day. The live musicians have instructions about how to respond to the recording.
