Anne Sexton, born in 1928 in Newton, Massachussetts, first lived the classic stereotype of a middle class housewife until she – aged 28, after a psychotic phase, at the recommendation of her therapist – began to write poems. During the next 15 years she became one of the most prominent representatives of the „confessional poets“. She won important literary prizes inluding the Pulitzer Prize. On 4ht October 1974 she killed herself.
