In preparation for our High School Composer Initiative in 2021, Brightwork’s Assistant Director Sarah Wass sat down over Zoom with our violinist Shalini Vijayan for a conversation about creating an at-home recording studio during lockdown, cooking South Indian food and the joys of playing chamber music.

Are you in high school and interested in composing for live instruments? Brightwork newmusic is thrilled to partner with composer Nina Shekhar to present the Project Beacon High School Composer Initiative which aims to identify and mentor young composers. Students from groups that have been historically underrepresented in the field of classical music composition are especially encouraged to apply.
