Tuesdays @ Monk Space PRESENTS
M.A. Tiesenga
Tuesdays @ Monk Space presents interdisciplinary artist M.A. Tiesenga in a concert of boundary-pushing works and new creations.
Immerse yourself in the music while surrounded by Tiesenga’s large-scale graphic scores this special performance-exhibition! An evening of sound, symbol, and collaborative inquiry: Tiesenga presents new graphic notational works developed through ongoing musical and social relationships within a shared artistic community. The scores, which are created individually for each performer, are conceived not as fixed prescriptions but as rhizomatic maps, drawing on Gilles Deleuze’s distinction between mapping and tracing. Rather than reproducing predetermined musical outcomes, these visual compositions function as open systems that enable multiplicity, divergence, and performer-driven meaning-making across bridged aesthetic languages of sound production. The evening culminates in a collective performance of a new chamber ensemble work for strings.
ABOUT:
M.A. Tiesenga is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice delves into the intricate interplay of procedure and enaction within collaborative performance contexts, deftly shaping these dynamics through various idioms. Inspired by an affinity for the outdoors, Tiesenga draws analogies between these concepts and the art of cartography, illuminating the parallels between a map and a musical score. This exploration opens doors to musically navigate, inhabit, and realize theoretical terrains.
