Tuesdays @ Monk Space PRESENTS
Eclectic Salon: The music of Helmut Oehring at Villa Aurora
$10 Students/Seniors/Members of Villa Aurora. $20 General Admission.
Light reception to follow.
Join Brightwork newmusic as we present the music of Helmut Oehring, composer, director, choreographer. Helmut Oehring was born in 1961 in East Berlin as a hearing child of deafmute parents. He considers German sign language his mother tongue, as well as a foundation for his audiovisual compositions and choreographies for musicians, performers, sign soloists, and dancers. He is an autodidact guitarist and composer.
Oehring’s compositions and productions are performed worldwide. The New Yorker recently named him one of “the most influential audiovisual composers alongside John Adams, Kaija Saariaho, Björk and Robert Ashley”.
All works will be blended into each other and mixed with reading of texts from Helmut Oehrings’s autobiography With different eyes: Child of deafmute parents becoming a composer.
Street Parking is available on Los Liones Drive. Shuttle service starts at 6:30 pm from Los Liones Drive, off Sunset Boulevard two blocks North East of Pacific Coast Highway. Please do not park on the Topanga State Park Lot!
