Anthony Parnther & Friends: The Revolution Will Not Be Televised

Conductor, Music Director, and Bassoonist Anthony Parnther curates an evening at T@MS for conducted string orchestra featuring music inspired by courage, strength, and resistance to oppression.

This concert will include the West Coast Premiere of Anne Leilehua Lanzilotti’s with eyes the color of time which was a finalist for the 2022 Pulitzer Prize in Music. The Pulitzer committee called this work, “a vibrant composition . . . that distinctly combines experimental string textures and episodes of melting lyricism.”

Carlos Simon’s Elegy: A Cry from the Grave is an artistic reflection dedicated to those who have been murdered wrongfully by an oppressive power; namely Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner and Michael Brown.

Anthony Parnther uses the text from Gil Scott-Heron’s call to action The Revolution Will Not Be Televised to create a a new work for string orchestra and narrator. Dmitri Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony in C Minor, a response to the terrors of war and fascism, completes the program.
