Geeta Novotny, (also credited as Geeta Bhatnagar) is an award-winning artist who has established herself as a leading and innovative singer, teacher, and performer. As a classical singer, Geeta continues to meet abundant acclaim for her powerful, rich, mezzo-soprano voice and her captivating stage presence. Geeta has performed in a wide range of principal roles nationally and internationally with esteemed opera companies and symphony orchestras from the hallowed stages of New York City’s Carnegie Hall and The Metropolitan Opera House to the stages of the Los Angeles Opera and the Aspen Music Festival.

She also holds a B.F.A. from Carnegie Mellon University where she was a two-time recipient of the Harry G. Archer Award Scholarship and the Charlotte Black Memorial Scholarship. Geeta pursued her Masters of Music at the University of North Texas where she was awarded a full-time teaching fellowship.

Geeta has taught at numerous performing arts schools around the country, from the preschool through high school level to the university and professional level. Geeta now maintains a premier private voice studio in Los Angeles, California where she teaches private sessions for both the novice and professional alike.

As a profound believer in the power of holistic mind / body health and wellness, Geeta also continues to use the human voice as a source of healing. She has performed her Vocal Immersion Sound Baths at yoga studios, in collaboration with other wellness practitioners, private and corporate events, and wellness retreats in renowned venues such as The Integratron in Joshua Tree, California and the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California. In addition, Geeta has incorporated sound baths and other multi-therapeutic approaches into her revolutionary teaching methodology.

As an important complement to her teaching and performance career, Geeta donates her time and talent toward humanitarian causes. She has performed extensively through educational outreach bringing opera into schools around the country. She is also a proud project leader and roster artist for the charitable organization Sing for Hope.

Geeta is also a published writer who has contributed to the New York City-based magazine The Indian American as a music columnist.

In addition to her above professional enterprises, Geeta has also lent her voice to film soundtracks and has also enjoyed a career as a principal stage and film actor.

Geeta stays true to her namesake, as “Geeta” means “Song” in Hindi. She is a progeny of an industrious Eastern Indian father and an exuberant Irish mother and was raised in rural Pennsylvania. Her eclectic cultural background has given her an understanding of many worlds that has sustained her in her variety of creative endeavors.
